11th Halina't Umawit
A Philippine Children's Choir Festival

About the 11th Halina’t Umawit Festival:
The Hail Mary the Queen Children’s Choir (HMtQCC) is grateful for its 20th anniversary this 2019. In celebrating this milestone, the Ave Maria Children’s Choir Foundation has invited to Manila the Cantemus Children’s Choir from Nyiregyhaza, Hungary. Together with HMtQCC, they will be making harmony in the 11th Halina’ Umawit – a Philippine Children’s Choir Festival on August 18, 2019 at the Nicanor Abelardo Hall of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Halina’t Umawit (Come, Let us Sing!) was formed as part of HMtQCC’s musical directors Jude Roldan and Maria Theresa Vizconde- Roldan’s advocacy to support and strengthen the children’s choral movement in the Philippines.
The very first festivals were participated in by the finest children’s choirs from Metro Manila and nearby provinces who won in international competitions. In 2014, the use of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the most prestigious venue in the country, gave more aspiring choirs the opportunity to showcase their talent.
The festival theme has evolved yearly. The 7th year featured a guest conductor, Peter Robb, from Oregon, USA, who eagerly shared best practices from his 33 years of choral expertise. The 8th year featured the first international guest choir from Denmark, the Midvest Girls Choir. Last year featured Choir of the World winners UST Singers, Philippine Meister Singers, and HMtQCC.
This year’s festival will also feature the Ateneo Chamber Singers as a special guest choir, under the baton of international choral jurist, Jonathan Velasco.
