The American Songbook
A Retrospect

Filfest Festival 2018, considered "the cultural hub of the South," opens its concert season with “The American Songbook : A Retrospective” on May 12, Saturday, at 8 p.m. at the Insular Life Auditorium, Insular life Bldg., Filinvest, Alabang,  Muntinlupa City.

This first concert will provide a glimpse of the evolution of the great American musicals.   Relive memorable music by Cole Porter,  Jerome Kerns,  Leonard Bernstein,  George Gershwin, to name a few, as their songs are performed by four of country most promising young artists: sopranos Mheco Manlangit and Jasmin Salvo,  tenor Jan Brian Ashtom and pianist Michelle Nicolasora.

Manlangit is the recent grand prize winner of the Jovita Fuentes Vocal Competition and the only winner in the vocal category of the First Singapore International Music Competition. She debuted with the Young Artists Series of Cultural Arts Event Organizer at the Ayala Museum last year and was handpicked by tenor Arthur Espiritu to join his concert, " Night of Love" in February.

Salvo is the second prize winner of the Jovita Fuentes Vocal Competition and has performed in many University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music productions.  Ashtom was a semi-finalist of the Jovita Fuentes Vocal Competition, a student of Arthur Espiritu and has performed in numerous productions, including Felipe de Leon’s opera Noli Me Tangere.

Nicolasora is a winner of the National Music Competition for Young Artists and the Ultimate Pianist Competition winner.  She received her doctorate in collaborative piano at the University of Memphis under Dr. Victor Asuncion.

The series is made possible through a partnership with Insular Life, DZFE.FM 98.7 The Master's Touch, Vivere Hotel, San Miguel Corp., Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation,  Conti's and Alba.
